Derek HodneProgram Director
Derek’s long history and love of Camp Orchard Hill began at birth. He lived on grounds for the first two years of his life while his dad served as Director. Derek then spent 8 summers working in seasonal positions as Counselor, Assistant Program Director and Program Director.
Derek graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University in 2002 with a degree in Biblical Studies and Elementary Education and thought he would have a long career in teaching. But in 2006, after 4 fun years teaching 6th grade in Somerset, NJ, God clearly called him back to Camp Orchard Hill to serve in the full-time Program Director position.
Derek now uses the soda Moxie, his Norwegian heritage, his love of the Red Sox and his amazing kazoo playing ability to build relationships with campers and staff. “I love to see the same kids year after year experience God in new ways. Camp is all about relationships – campers with campers, campers with the counselors and most importantly, campers with our Savior Jesus Christ.”
Derek lives on the camp grounds with his wife Lauren, daughter Gabby and his son Ben.
Amy KeiperOffice Manager, Registrar, Rental and Retreat Coordinator
Amy graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Business Management and Marketing and was available at just the right time for a position at Camp Orchard Hill. She is truly a people person and serves at the front desk with joy and a smile. Even when obstacles arise or work is difficult, Amy looks forward to the relationships she is able to build with campers and their families in her everyday interactions!
Amy’s favorite verse is Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.” She has gladly clung to these words as a reminder to trust even through difficult life circumstances.
Amy lives at Harvey’s Lake with her 11 year old daughter McKayla who is truly her greatest blessing. Amy loves to dance and will not shy away from the stage for talent shows and skits – especially if it serves to embarrass McKayla!
Lisa StullFood Services Director
Lisa began working at Camp Orchard Hill in April of 2006, overseeing the food service area of camp and has recently started hosting banquets in The Lakeview Terrace. Previously, she worked in the insurance industry and was a banquet manager for a local country club. Lisa loves, loves, loves her work at Camp Orchard Hill and is especially privileged to run the the outreach program for the homeless at Christmas and Easter. She is so grateful to be a part of camp’s amazing growth over the past 12 years, watching the programs develop, taking active part in all sorts of helps ministries in our local community and seeing a new dining hall and kitchen open during her time. In all of these opportunities, God has truly given her the desires of her heart!
When she’s not doing camp, Lisa loves spending time with her 4 children, Sara, Rachael, Re-becca and Isaiah, tons of family and friends, laying on the beach in Florida, traveling anywhere and loving God with all her heart, soul, strength and mind.
Tim ChaseGuest Services Coordinator
Tim is your weekend go-to guy during your retreat stay. He handles audio visual needs and will make sure your retreat runs smoothly and that you have everything you need while you are here.
Tim’s relationship with Camp Orchard Hill started as a camper in the early ’90s. He began working on summer staff in 2000 and has been involved with camp in some way ever since.
Tim graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 2005 with a degree in Bible with a Pastoral minor. He was previously employed in a custom wood shop making frames for museums and art galleries. Even while he was there Tim would volunteer at camp as much as possible and he was thrilled to accept a full time position in 2013.
Tim also works with youth at his local church, and enjoys being able to serve Christ while being surrounded by His creation.
Matt ChaseFacilities Director
Matt works tirelessly to maintain and improve the buildings, grounds and equipment at camp. He worked previously as a mechanic at Mahle’s automotive shop and then at Shaver and Sons, also as a mechanic. Matt has his CDL and enjoys driving tractor trailers when he has the opportunity.
But Matt’s heart has always been at Camp Orchard Hill. He began attending as a camper in middle school and, as soon as it was possible, joined the summer staff. He worked every summer on the maintenance team from 1991 until 1994 and he dreamed of working on the team in a full time role. Matt was thrilled when the opportunity arose in 2015. He is now able to work hard with his hands, serve a ministry that he loves and still spend more time with his family than in his previous positions.
A little known fact – Matt is the baker in his family and makes amazing pumpkin roll and chocolate chip cookies. He enjoys Nascar and, when he’s not working, also enjoys a well deserved nap on the couch!
Kacey PoeProgram Manager
Kacey grew up attending camp at Crossroads Camp in Lowesville, VA and was drawn to the camp atmosphere of being able to have fun and be herself. She worked at Crossroads in high school and rose to the leadership team for two summers. She continued gaining experience as an intern at Camp Caraway in Sophia, NC and found the Camp Orchard Hill internship program in 2014. During her year as an intern, Kacey enjoyed interacting with the full time staff team. She served as the Summer Activity Leader (SAL) for resident camp and was thrilled to return to a full time position in January of 2016.
Camp ministry resonates with Kacey because of the opportunity for deep and sincere relationship with campers, staff and ultimately with Jesus Christ. Kacey is currently studying Church Ministries at Liberty University Online and aspires to be an astronaut when she grows up!
Colin KirbyProgram Manager
Colin has been attending Camp Orchard Hill since he was 7 years old and is the self-proclaimed FIRST Day Camper in COH history, before the official program even began. Colin is also a graduate of the Leadership Training program at COH and has worked in nearly every seasonal staff role including lifeguard, counselor and Summer Activity Leader.
Colin brings a wealth of experience to his role here at COH. He is currently finishing his BS in Sport Management from Liberty University and has worked as the summer Tour Director for Airo7V7, three years with the Division I Liberty University Football Team and most recently an internship with the NY Jets.
Just as important as his work experience is Colin’s love of working with kids in the camp setting. As HIS life was shaped by his experience at Camp Orchard Hill, he is excited to influence the next generation of campers. Here’s a quick hint…DO NOT offer him a pickle…he can’t stand them and refuses to be around them or people who are eating them!
