Derek HodneProgram Director
Derek’s long history and love of Camp Orchard Hill began at birth. He lived on grounds for the first two years of his life while his dad served as Director. Derek then spent 8 summers working in seasonal positions as Counselor, Assistant Program Director and Program Director.
Derek graduated from Philadelphia Biblical University in 2002 with a degree in Biblical Studies and Elementary Education and thought he would have a long career in teaching. But in 2006, after 4 fun years teaching 6th grade in Somerset, NJ, God clearly called him back to Camp Orchard Hill to serve in the full-time Program Director position.
Derek now uses the soda Moxie, his Norwegian heritage, his love of the Red Sox and his amazing kazoo playing ability to build relationships with campers and staff. “I love to see the same kids year after year experience God in new ways. Camp is all about relationships – campers with campers, campers with the counselors and most importantly, campers with our Savior Jesus Christ.”
Derek lives on the camp grounds with his wife Lauren, daughter Gabby and his son Ben.
Mikayla DillmanProgram Manager
Mikayla joins our team as a Program Manager and will take the lead on our Birthday Party program, Parent’s Night Out events and Ropes Course Events. Mikayla graduated in May, 2018 with a degree in Camp and Outdoor Adventure Leadership (COAL), a minor in Business from Liberty University. While at Liberty she worked at SnowFlex, a year round ski and snowboard facility and also earned her ACCT Ropes I Certification!
While Mikayla is just getting started in her full-time role, she has already worked at Camp Orchard Hill on summer staff for 5 years as Counselor, Unit Leader, and Nehi Leader. Mikayla has chosen to invest in camp ministry because she believes the unique atmosphere gives kids a confidence boost to be themselves. She has seen that when kids feel confident and secure they are also able to freely connect with God.
In her spare time, Mikayla can be found reading, spending time with her family in Andreas, PA and, on a great day, weeding, mulching or any other form of yardwork with her dad! If you’re looking for Mikayla at camp, you can find her at the top of the zip lines in the Crow’s Nest, enjoying the sunset and gorgeous views of the mountains and trees that surround our property!
Amy KeiperOffice Manager, Registrar, Rental and Retreat Coordinator
Amy graduated from Penn State University with a BS in Business Management and Marketing and was available at just the right time for a position at Camp Orchard Hill. She is truly a people person and serves at the front desk with joy and a smile. Even when obstacles arise or work is difficult, Amy looks forward to the relationships she is able to build with campers and their families in her everyday interactions!
Amy’s favorite verse is Romans 8:28 “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose.” She has gladly clung to these words as a reminder to trust even through difficult life circumstances.
Amy lives at Harvey’s Lake with her 11 year old daughter McKayla who is truly her greatest blessing. Amy loves to dance and will not shy away from the stage for talent shows and skits – especially if it serves to embarrass McKayla!
Steve BassettFood Services Director
Steve Bassett is a native of London, England who always had a love for the culinary arts. His passion for cooking delighted foodies throughout Louisiana and now he has relocated to Dallas, PA to bring his chef’s expertise to Camp Orchard Hill. Steve is excited to be part of a Christian team where he can incorporate his passion for cooking with his love for the Lord!
Tim ChaseGuest Services Coordinator
Tim is your weekend go-to guy during your retreat stay. He handles audio visual needs and will make sure your retreat runs smoothly and that you have everything you need while you are here.
Tim’s relationship with Camp Orchard Hill started as a camper in the early ’90s. He began working on summer staff in 2000 and has been involved with camp in some way ever since.
Tim graduated from Lancaster Bible College in 2005 with a degree in Bible with a Pastoral minor. He was previously employed in a custom wood shop making frames for museums and art galleries. Even while he was there Tim would volunteer at camp as much as possible and he was thrilled to accept a full time position in 2013.
Tim also works with youth at his local church, and enjoys being able to serve Christ while being surrounded by His creation.
Matt ChaseFacilities Director
Matt works tirelessly to maintain and improve the buildings, grounds and equipment at camp. He worked previously as a mechanic at Mahle’s automotive shop and then at Shaver and Sons, also as a mechanic. Matt has his CDL and enjoys driving tractor trailers when he has the opportunity.
But Matt’s heart has always been at Camp Orchard Hill. He began attending as a camper in middle school and, as soon as it was possible, joined the summer staff. He worked every summer on the maintenance team from 1991 until 1994 and he dreamed of working on the team in a full time role. Matt was thrilled when the opportunity arose in 2015. He is now able to work hard with his hands, serve a ministry that he loves and still spend more time with his family than in his previous positions.
A little known fact – Matt is the baker in his family and makes amazing pumpkin roll and chocolate chip cookies. He enjoys Nascar and, when he’s not working, also enjoys a well deserved nap on the couch!
