Memorial Day Weekend Speaker: House on the Rock Family Ministries - Bruce McCracken
Keep Your Kids from Canaan
Keeping Your Kids from Canaan reminds parents that there are evil influences seeking to possess the hearts, minds, souls and bodies of their children. This session will unpack ways parents can develop and deepen the spiritual lives of their children. This presentation highlights the instructions of Moses to the people of God in Deuteronomy 6.
House on the Rock Family Ministries exists to help churches build strong marriages and families on Biblical guidelines: "Families built on the 'Rock' today, will stand the storms of tomorrow."
We believe that if we can build strong men we will strengthen marriages. Strong marriages provide the foundation for effective parenting. Strong families create strong churches, because the church is a “family of families.” Building strong healthy families is vital to building strong healthy churches.
Bruce was born and raised in Aldan, a small suburb of Philadelphia, PA. He is the oldest of three sons raised in a Christian home. He attended Aldan Union Church. Both of these influences greatly shaped his spiritual developmen
t. A Sunday School teacher led him to Christ when he was 8 years old. He completed a B.A. in Christian Education from Taylor University in Upland, IN where he met his wife Karen.
Karen and Bruce were married September 7, 1974. Their honeymoon was a long drive from Philly to Des Moines towing a U-haul! They served as youth pastors of the Evangelical Covenant Church, in Des Moines, IA for 5 years.
From Iowa they literally moved home, to Karen's home church in Havertown PA. where they served as youth pastors for three years.
Bruce and Karen moved to Deerfield, IL to complete a Master's degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. While finishing his master’s thesis and beginning the doctoral program at TEDS, the Lord called them to Lancaster Bible College in Lancaster, PA.
Bruce completed his doctorate (Ph.D.) from Trinity in 1993. He has served as Chair of the Christian Education Department for 16 years, and the Dean of Undergraduate Education for 6 years.
Bruce founded House on the Rock Family Ministries in 1988 as an extension of his speaking and teaching ministry at LBC. It was through the prodding of several elders from his home church that he initiated launching full time in this venture.
Bruce currently serves as a member of Pat Morley's Man in the Mirror's faculty. He has also served on the faculties of: Word of Life Bible Institute in Schroon Lake, NY and Messiah College in Grantham, PA.
Karen holds a masters degree from Penn State University and teaches Physical Education at a local elementary school.
Bruce and Karen have celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary and are the parents of two adult sons and are the proud grandparents of the cutest granddaughters!
Labor Day Weekend Speaker: Ed Cole
"Running Your Race" - Four essential truths for staying strong and finishing well in the Christian life.
Ed grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee and accepted Christ as Savior as a young adult. With a powerful testimony and a passion to tell others about Jesus, he committed his life to vocational ministry and received training for ministry at Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.
While serving Christ in two local churches and preaching in numerous churches throughout the southeast, he sensed a distinct calling to minister in New York City. In 2002, Salem Church called and asked Eddie and his wife, Jessica, to come to do an evangelistic outreach, but in between the time of the invitation and the time of the outreach, Salem found itself without a Pastor. As always, God's timing proved to be providential and since February 2003, Ed has served as Lead Pastor.
His mission in New York is to lead Salem toward being a spiritually dynamic, church planting church. In the meantime he is working toward being the best husband and dad he can be for Jessica and Madison. In the Spring of 2011, Pastor Ed received his doctorate degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.
