Frontiers for Leadership
The Orchard Hill Leadership Training Ministry seeks to challenge high school campers with new experiences designed to transform them into leaders for Christ. Through deliberate activities and purposeful jobs, campers will be molded into a team of students focused on the intention of growing to be spiritually mature leaders. This ministry is divided into three levels. The first two levels are two-week programs while the third is four weeks. All students, regardless of age, will start at the first (Nehemiah) level- which is foundational for their advancement.

Level 1 Nehemiah Team: Vision and Commitment
Eligibility requirement: completed application, going into 10th grade after summer
The “Nehi” team learns about commitment through times of service and vision for a big work of God through their serving and studying how God worked with Nehemiah and also at Camp Orchard Hill through the years. Through vital behind-the-scenes work the Nehis learn to give of themselves and become servants just as Christ modeled for us through His life.
This “camp within a camp” utilizes work projects, Bible memorization, an in depth study of Nehemiah led by a dedicated COH staff person, development of a personal quiet time, COH’s Challenge Course, and a overnight out- trip to develop servant leaders. While the Nehi team will have the opportunity to work, play, and learn servant leadership, they will not have the added responsibility of caring for campers. This ministry is offered to campers going into the 10th grade or above. As this is an entry level, it is required before level 2 or 3. The fee is $250 per two week session.
Level 2 Timothy Team: Calling and Competencies
Eligibility requirement: completed application, completed Nehemiah training, going into 11th grade after summer
The Timothy Team begins the transition from camper to counselor. With foundational concepts of commitment and ministry vision under their belt from the Nehemiah experience, it now becomes more about doing ministry directly with campers in their cabin groups. The Timothy Team will examine their own calling and gifts while developing skills to do great mentoring with COH campers. While a Timothy does not bear the full weight of the responsibility of a counselor, they are fully involved in the cabin and will be trained in an elective class that they will lead.
They are able to catch a glimpse of what it takes to be a counselor through helping with camp activities, take part in character studies of Biblical role models led by a COH staff person. They will learn how to share their testimonies, and evangelism skills and how to apply those skills in a leadership role in the cabin, school and life. Tims are also involved in the overnight trip in which they share their new found skill with the Nehis. Through these avenues and the ones developed in the Nehi program, the Timothy Team develops leadership skills and lasting relationships with each other. This ministry is offered to campers who have completed the Nehemiah Team training. The fee is $250 per two week session.
Level 3 Barnabas Team: Confirming Vision, Commitment and Calling….refining competencies
Eligibility requirement: completed application, prior COH leadership training experience, going into 12th grade after the summer, interview with COH director
The Barnabas Team seeks to complete the transition from camper to counselor. While confirming vision, commitment, and calling– they are learning new skills, taking on more responsibility as a staff– trainee, and being mentored through the process. Barnabas was the consummate encourager while he was running the race to develop other believers at home and beyond.
The Barnabas Team will be the “Counselors in Training” assisting COH counselors as a leader in the cabin. The Barnabas Team will also receive training through Bible memorization, training in Bible study methods, evangelism training, relational ministry training, and counselor training. The fee is $250 per two week session and spots are limited.
What Participants are saying:
"The Nehi program was the most amazing two weeks of my life. It motivated me, above and beyond my expectations of what to come away from camp with. My nehi session was a life changing stay and I can't wait to come back next year.”
"Being part of the Barnabas program showed me that I need to leave my comfort zone and do what God has planned for me to do.”
"As a Timothy, I learned to have patience with the people around me. Also, I discovered that living out my faith, no matter how difficult, is the only way to be a true role model to those younger than me."
"I learned how to present my testimony which was pretty cool because through that I could recall how much God has really worked in my life."
“I learned to be a leader through how I act and to be an example to others regardless of their age."
“Quite possibly the toughest and most rewarding two weeks of my life…”
“I enjoyed the 2 weeks I spent here and have felt as if the camp couldn’t have functioned quite as well if the Nehemiahs didn’t come. As I go on in life I have realized that I want to serve God for the rest of my life, just like these people do every day of their lives. I want to build a camp just like COH because COH has changed my life, I want to give back to God what He has done in my life.”
“This program was amazing. I learned so much about myself and about God over the 2 weeks I was there. I’m so grateful for everything that everyone at COH has done for me. Thanks so much!”
